Introduction

A stative or state verb is a verb expressing a state. If it tells what a subject is, it is called a stative verb. Verbs which describe a state or situation rather than an action. It cannot be used in the continuous aspect. They tend not to be used in the progressive / continuous e.g. to want, to contain. A state of being verb expresses a condition or state of being:
