An adjective is a word that modifies or describes or specifies a noun or pronoun. An adjective can be used as:
- a noun modifier
- a predicate: they are used in the sense of is or equals
Adjectives fall into two types.
- An い adjective ends with い when it modifies nouns and most such adjectives end with あい, いい, おい or うい.
- A な adjective ends with な when it modifies nouns and most such adjectives do not end with あい, いい, おい or うい.
There are the い adjectives and there are the な adjectives and when they act as noun modifiers, the い is added to the adjective stem and the な is also is added to the adjective stem accordingly. The following table shows a list of adjectives.
