Introduction

A projectile /prə(ʊ)ˈdʒɛktʌɪl, -tɪl/ is an object propelled through the air. A projectile may be fired with an initial velocity.

Maximum Height

The maximum height of a projectile is

(h) = v0 2sin2θ / 2g

where

  • v = velocity of particle
  • v0 = initial velocity
  • g = acceleration due to gravity
  • θ = angle of projection

Horizontal Range

The horizontal range of a projectile is

(l) = v0 2sin 2θ / g

where

  • v = velocity of particle
  • v0 = initial velocity
  • g = acceleration due to gravity
  • θ = angle of projection

Escape Velocity

The escape velocity of a projectile is

vesc = (2G.M / R)1/2

where

  • M = mass of the central body
  • R = radius of the central body
